Post-Curing Process for Special Rubber Products: Key Step to Boost High-Temperature Resistance and Corrosion Resistance

17 Jun 2026

Primary vulcanization can basically shape rubber products, but it cannot fully remove residual vulcanizing agents, volatile impurities and internal molecular stress. For high-performance special rubber including silicone rubber, FKM fluoroelastomer and HNBR, secondary vulcanization (post-curing) is an indispensable finishing process. It greatly optimizes molecular crosslinking structure, and significantly improves core performance including high-temperature stability, corrosion resistance, compression set and service life.

Different from conventional one-time curing, secondary vulcanization refers to constant-temperature baking treatment in an independent heating oven after primary molding. We adopt segmented temperature control solutions for different rubber materials: silicone rubber undergoes 2-hour post-curing at 200℃; FKM fluororubber uses high-temperature baking at 230℃ for 4 hours; HNBR applies matched medium-temperature post-curing to balance elasticity and heat resistance.

This core process brings three major performance upgrades for special rubber parts. Firstly, it eliminates residual volatile substances to reduce odor and avoid bubble generation under high-temperature working conditions. Secondly, it completes deep molecular crosslinking, cutting compression set rate effectively and preventing permanent deformation of seals and hoses under long-term pressure. Thirdly, it enhances chemical inertness, improving resistance to fuel, hydraulic oil, acid and alkali corrosive media.

Products without secondary vulcanization are prone to aging, cracking, leakage and performance attenuation in high-temperature engine compartments, chemical pipelines and other harsh scenarios. All our food-grade, medical-grade and automotive special rubber components adopt standardized post-curing procedures. Combined with full-process quality inspection, our products maintain stable performance in extreme working conditions for a long time.

As a critical hidden process determining final product quality, secondary vulcanization helps our special rubber products meet global high-standard application demands, delivering more durable and reliable rubber solutions for worldwide industrial and automotive buyers.
